At present, PAVN operates several thousand obsolete ZIL and Ural trucks delivered by the Soviet Union in the 1960s-1990s, the Vietnamese media outlets say. Therefore, the introduction of new and reliable heavy trucks to the units of PAVN seems to be a bread-and-butter issue.
The PAVN has been intensively buying various modifications KAMAZ trucks in large quantities since 2000. In May 2016, the Director General of KAMAZ, Sergei Kokogin said that the company had delivered 700 automobiles to Hanoi in 2015. He also pointed out that KAMAZ was planning to deliver over 1,000 trucks to Vietnam by the end of 2016. Previously, Moscow and Hanoi signed the agreement to establish a licensed production of KAMAZ trucks in Vietnam. The local enterprise will produce buses, trucks, special vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and passenger cars. KAMAZ is reported to get an import quota to deliver unassembled kits and ready cars to the customers in tax-free mode. The level of localized manufacturing is reported to reach 40-50% by 2025. Therefore, Russia will be able to export about 800 trucks to Vietnam with duty unpaid. At the Army 2016 military-technical forum held outside Moscow Kokogin said that the KAMAZ company produced about 14,000 cargo trucks in 2015. He added that most of the vehicles were exported. Vietnam became the main importer of Russian trucks followed by Cuba and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the official specifications, KAMAZ-43253 4x2 wheel truck has a weight of 6,050 kg, a lifting capacity of 9,800 kg, a full weight of 15,500 kg, and a maximum road speed of 85 km/h. It is powered by a CUMMINS 6 ISBe 210 (203 h.p.) turbodiesel engine. |
