One of the main feature for the new Khoran IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) is the use of an unmanned weapon station which is armed with a single 35mm automatic cannon including dual-feed rate capability also used for the Korkut 35mm self-propelled gun system.
The 35mm cannon of the Khoran IFV is able to fire new air burst ammunition also manufactured by Aselsan. The concept of air burst ammunition came up in order to increase the efficiency of the gun systems against air-to-surface missiles, UAV’s, etc. The idea is basically to create a cloud of particles which have high kinetic energy and penetration capability on the path of the threat and be able to hit targets which are very difficult to hit with the classical ammunitions. ASELSAN’s 35 mm Airburst Ammunition is developed in the scope of this concepts and it is highly efficient against small and fast air threats. The top of the turret is fitted a panoramic sight that provides a true day and night situation awareness acquisition, target designation and high efficiency engagement to armored vehicles. The turret is also fitted with laser warning system to provide the crew early warning of Laser Rangefinder and designator threats, thereby allowing evasive action to be taken and thus increasing platform survivability. The turret offers ballistic protection Level 2 STANAG 4569 in standard configuration against firing of small arms 7.62x39mm at 30m. The armour can be upgraded to Level 4 STANAG 4569 to provide ballistic protection against firing of heavy machine gun 14.5mm caliber. |
