ASELSAN presents state of the art “Next Generation MBT Upgrade Solution” at IDEF 2017 which can be implemented on heavy MBTs as the Leopard 2A4 in service with the Turkish army. This new upgrade meets all mid life upgrade requirements while bringing the combat performance of the MBTs beyond all of the existing MBTs.
ASELSAN’s MBT upgrade system solution is based on the back-bone of the electronic infrastructure of the Turkish National Main Battle Tank ALTAY that will be the new MBT of the Turkish armed forces. The goal of this upgrade is to use similar armour solutions and fire control systems available on Altay MBT and on old Leopard 2A4 and M60T MBTs currently in service with the Turkish army. With this upgrade solution, ASELSAN replaces all of the electronic, electro-optic, electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic systems of the MBTs with newly developed state of the art systems. This leads to increased performance and reduced Life Cycle Cost to incomparable levels with respect to any Main Battle Tank has. Next Generation Main Battle Tank Upgrade Solution shall boost the battle performance of the MBTs together with the enhancement of their defense capabilities against anti-tank missiles and related terrorist activities. The MBT upgrade solutions includes also a new passive armour mounted at the front and on each side of the hull. A similar armour package is fitted on the front and side of the turret. To increase protection against RPG (Rocket-Propelled Grenade) threats, slat armour are mounted at the rear of the hull and the turret. A remotely operated weapon station is mounted on the roof of the turret which can be armed with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine that is also equipped with day/night vision and thermal camera. The same system is used on the new Altay MBT. |
