The purpose of the program is the acquisition of approximately 440 identical vehicles and to conclude an accompanying maintenance contract. The vehicles will replace the 437 LMVs in service with the Belgian armed forces since 2007. These 7 tons-class vehicles will be used as the joint command and liaison platform within the BEL MOD. Future users include ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance), inter-weapon motorised capacities, air component and medical component.
All vehicles will be identical and have the same passive protection. Approximately 20 % of the fleet will be permanently equipped with a Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS). The RCWS will be Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), but the installation must be done by the candidate. The new RCWS will be comparable to the RCWS on the current Belgian Lynx. It will use 7.62x51mm ammunition and be able to rotate 360°. It will weigh approximately 275kg, including level 1 ballistic protection. The vehicle will also be fitted with GFE VHF radio systems and GFE Battlefield Management Systems. The future platform will feature a max speed exceeding 100 km/h and a permanent ballistic and mine protection for the crew of STANAG 4569 level 2a or 2b. |
