The new BMP-3M Ataka is similar to the standard version of the BMP-3M fitted with a two-man turret armed with 100mm 2A70 semi-automatic gun which can be used against ground targets at a maximum range of 4,000 m. Mounted coaxially to the right of the 100 mm gun is the 30 mm 2A72 cannon which can engage ground targets from a range of 1,500 to 2,000 m and helicopters up to 4,000 m using three types of 30 mm ammunition are fired, AP-I (Armor-Piercing Incendiary), HE-I (High Explosive Incendiary) and HE-T (High-Explosive Tracer). The top of the turret is fitted with a remote weapon station which has two launchers for the 9M120-1 Ataka ATGM. The NATO reporting name of the 9M120 missile is the AT-9 Spiral-2. It has a firing range from 400 to 6,000 m.The BMP-3M Ataka can carried a total of 10 military personnel including commander, driver, main gunner, 2 soldiers to operate machine guns at the front of the vehicle and 5 infantrymen. |
