Czech Republic will launch a new program to replace BMP-2s which are in service with the Czech army since the cold war. After IDET , Czech Ministry of Defense has invited all the international producer of tracked armoured vehicles to demonstrate their products in order to publish the first technical requirements. Czech army could purchase next year 200 new IFVs (Infantry Fighting Vehicles). The GDELS ASCOD IFV is a combat proven vehicle in service with the Spanish army under the name of Pizarro and in the Austrian under the name of Ulan. The latest variant of the ASCOD is a new generation of tracked armoured vehicle designed and developed jointly by the companies Santa Bárbara Sistemas (Pizarro) from Spain and Steyr from Austria which are now business units of General Dynamics European Land Systems. The hull of the ASCOD is of all-welded steel armour construction which provides, by a modular system, full protection against attack from 7.62 × 51 mm small arms fire through a full 360º. Over the frontal 60º arc, the vehicle is protected against 14.5 mm API (Armour-Piercing Incendiary) attack. The vehicle can offer a protection up to Level 4/5 STANAG 4569. The latest variant of the ASCOD uses a new modular armour to increase protection against anti-tank missile and RPG (Rocket-Propelled Grenade).
The ASCOD BVO can carry a total of 9 military personnel including commander, driver and gunner. |

At IDET 2017, the ASCOD was fitted with the Israeli-made Samson Mk II RWS (Remotely Weapon Station). The Samson Mk II is a dual-axis, gyrostabilized, dual-sight (Gunner and Commander) remote-controlled weapon system armed with one 30mm cannon , one 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and two anti-tank missile launchers Spike LR.
The Samson Mk II offers significant improvements, including lower silhouette, optional armor protection, and improved hit accuracy, boosted crew survivability with under-armor reloading, increased rigidity and higher gun elevation capabilities - all which enable improved combat continuity.
