The Iranian parliament's approval also necessitates the government to strengthen Iran's defense power through developing the country's missile production capabilities and developing the air defense capabilities at different short-, mid- and long-range levels. The Iranian parliament's approval also underlines development of electronic warfare and cyber defense capabilities. The parliament also approved development of Iran's air fleet for different offensive, defensive, combat and logistic missions by relying on modern aircraft, choppers and drone systems as well as updating and arming the existing drones' capabilities. In August 2016 during Iran's National Defense Industry Day, Iran has unveiled a new local-made surface-to-air long range missile system called the Bavar-373. In October 2016, the Russian government has announced the complete delivery of the S-300PMU2 surface-to-air missile system to Iran. Currently Iranian armed forces have a wide range of air defense systems from United States and Russia, but Iranian defense industry has also produced surface-to-air missiles including the Mersad, Raad, Ya Zahra, Herz-9, Talaash and Bavar-373. |
