"Our regular meetings have proven our interest in furthering our ongoing military and military-technical cooperation," Shoigu said.
He emphasized that Moscow regarded Belgrade as a reliable and proven partner that stands for the international security principles too. "Unfortunately, the world is not getting any more tranquil and stable, and the events of recent decades - ‘color revolutions’, invasions, violent toppling of governments - have not done any good," the minister added. Shoigu added that the proclaimed purpose of the above events - promoting democracy and prosperity - has not been attained in a single country of those affected by ‘color revolutions’. "The Moscow conference we host is aimed specifically at discussing these issues and, hopefully, coming up with solutions," the Russian defense minister stressed. He added that the Serbian presidential election won by Aleksandar Vucic has bolstered Russia’s confidence that the friendship and partnership between the two countries will strengthen. "Please, congratulate him for me and give him my sincere wishes for success. Our regular meetings have proven the mutual interest of Russia’s and Serbia’s defense ministries in constructive relations," Shoigu concluded. According to the SIPRI Arms Transfers Database, for 2016, Serbia has received many military equipment from Russia including 2 Mi-8MT/mi-17, 30 second-hand BRDM-2, 5 MiG-29S fighter aicraft and 30 T-72B main battle tank. |
