"The Russian Defense Ministry welcomes when defense contractors exercise initiative. There is a rule, however: anything developed at one’s own expense should meet our standards. We do not supervise the development of such materiel; we only conduct its operational evaluation. Therefore, we will buy a batch of APCs, test it and then decide," Borisov said, stressing that the military had a specialized research institute for this purpose.
The Russian Company Tractor Plants Concern has unveiled the BT-3F tracked amphibious armored personnel carrier (APC) at the Army 2016 military-technical forum which was held near Moscow in September 2016. The BT-3F tracked amphibious APC is developed on the base of the BMP-3F (F stands for Marinized, Flotskaya) IFV used by the Russian Navy`s Naval Infantry. The development of the vehicle started in 2010 under the program "BMP-3-based APC design work". The vehicle is supposed to replace the ageing MT-LB multirole tracked armoured tractors. The BT-3F is fitted with the DPV-T remote controlled weapon station (RCWS) located on the vehicle`s rooftop which is armed with a PKTM 7.62mm machine gun. It can be fitted with different types of remote turrets developed by the Russian defense industry that can be armed with one 12.7 mm 6P49 Kord machinegun, a 14.5 mm KPVT machinegun, as well as one 30 mm AG-17A or 40 mm AG-40 automatic grenade launchers. |
