Tornado-G russian army to conduct first live-fire exercise.

A rocket battery of a Bryansk Region-stationed artillery unit of a Western Military District's (WMD) combined-arms army is on march to the Dorogobuzh range (Smolensk Region) to conduct first live-fire exercise with the usage of the newest Tornado-G multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), according to the press department of the district.

"The first live practice with the usage of the 122 mm Tornado-G MLRS received during the planned re-equipment of the unit will take place during a tactical exercise," the press department said in a statement.

The combat effectiveness of the Tornado-G is higher by 2.5-3 times compared with that of the Grad MLRS. During the exercise, over 10 combat vehicles will engage exposed and covered manpower, armoured vehicles, artillery and mortar batteries and command post of a simulated enemy.

The Tornado-G MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System ) is an improved version of the standard Russian-made 122mm BM-21 rocket launcher system based on a Kamaz or Ural-4320 truck.

The Tornado-G is based on the BM-21 Grad but equipped with a satellite guidance system.
