The VPK-3924 Medved or SPM-3 Bear is a 4x4 mine-protected armoured vehicle (MRAP) designed manufactured by Russian Company Military Industrial Company (VPK). It can be configured to a number of variants, including armoured personnel carrier, internal security, command, reconnaissance, and ambulance.
The VPK-3924 Medved uses a new design featuring latest generation of armour using two layers of metal which considerably reduces the force of armour-piercing bullets. Its hull and bullet proof windows feature the Class 6A ballistic protection. The fielding of the SPM-3 Medved special armored wheeled vehicle with the Russian Interior Ministry will begin this year, according Sergei Suvorov, spokesman for Russian defense contractor Military Industrial Company. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation conducted a number of field tests on the SPM-3 Medved in 2012. An initial batch of SPM-3 Medved police vehicles were delivered to the Internal Troops of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2014. The police variant is also in service with the National Guard of Uruguay. The VPK-3924 Medved can carried a total of 10 military personnel including driver and commander. The vehicle has a total weight of 12,000 kg with a maximum payload of 1,200 kg. The VPK-3924 Medved can be fitted a ring-mounted turret or a remote-controlled weapons system on the top at the front part of the crew cabin which can be armed with a 12.7mm or 7.62mm machine gun. |
