The event witnessed an overwhelming international presence, with participation from over 82 countries. A staggering 77,000 representatives from more than 1,500 companies within the Russian defense industry graced the occasion, bringing with them over 28,500 defense and technical developments. The forum's significance was further underscored by Russia's proactive approach, as it held 14 bilateral meetings on the very first day, emphasizing its intent to foster military and political relations with other nations.
One of the standout displays at the forum was by the Russian Defence Ministry, which presented several Iranian-made drones. The Ministry also delved into future-focused topics, discussing the integration of artificial intelligence into weapons and control systems, the potential of 3D printing for naval repairs, and the modernization of domestic rescue and underwater equipment.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu were not ones to be left behind. Both made compelling statements, emphasizing Russia's military advancements. Shoigu, in particular, highlighted the achievements of the Russian defense industry, which boasts an impressive lineup of weapons, tanks, and drones. He also pointed out an unintended consequence of Western sanctions, which, according to him, boosted Russia's domestic production of military equipment.
Army-2023 provides an opportunity for the Russian Defense Industry to showcase their latest combat vehicles through live demonstrations, including tanks, artillery vehicles, APCs (Armored Personnel Carriers), IFVs (Infantry Fighting Vehicles), and more. In the 2023 edition of the Russian Military Technical Forum, the Russian army showcased its T-14 Armata for the first time.
The international pavilions were a sight to behold. Countries like India, China, and Iran set up impressive displays. India's pavilion, adorned with stalls by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and three Defence Public Sector Undertakings, drew significant attention. Meanwhile, China and Iran, both significant operators of Russian equipment, showcased a range of their locally developed equipment.
A notable mention goes to the BrahMos pavilion, representing the joint venture between India and Russia. This supersonic cruise missile has piqued the interest of various countries, with nations like Indonesia and Malaysia now in advanced stages of discussions.
Running parallel to Army-2023 was the 11th Moscow Conference on International Security. This conference saw a gathering of senior military officials from across the globe, including the likes of Chinese Defence Minister General Li Shangfu.
