BAE Systems supplies M109A7 self-propelled howitzers to US Army.
In an announcement made on November 9, 2023, BAE Systems Land & Armaments LP secured a significant contract modification worth $63,936,542. This modification falls under the original contract W56HZV-17-C-0001 and targets the production and delivery of M109A7 self-propelled howitzer systems and M992A3 tracked ammunition carrier vehicles.

The production work will be carried out in York, Pennsylvania, and the project is expected to be completed by December 30, 2027. Funds for this contract come from the 2023 budgets allocated for the acquisition of weapons and tracked combat vehicles for the army, as well as from the operation and maintenance funds of the Department of Defense.

The M992A3 features an armored and air-conditioned ammunition storage compartment, capable of carrying a large quantity of projectiles and propellant charges. It is also equipped with modern communication systems to ensure effective coordination with artillery units. The M992A3's main role is to follow front-line artillery units, providing a continuous supply of ammunition, crucial for maintaining a sustained rate of artillery fire in prolonged operations.
