Elbit Systems UK's Joint Fires Synthetic Trainer delivers over 4700 training hours to UK armed forces.

Elbit Systems UK's Joint Fires Synthetic Trainer (JFST) has officially achieved Initial Operating Capability (IOC). JFST offers immersive training using cutting-edge simulations to provide real-time instruction for personnel from the British Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force who are involved in Joint Fires, encompassing both surface-to-surface and air-to-surface fires.

The successful integration of JFST at the Royal School of Artillery in Larkhill and the Air Ground Operations School (formerly known as the Joint Forward Air Control Training and Standardisation Unit) at RAF Leeming has resulted in the delivery of over 4,700 hours of training.

Since its deployment at these locations in 2022, more than 300 service members, hailing from both the British and Allied forces, have undergone training, including those preparing for immediate frontline deployments.

At the Royal School of Artillery in Larkhill, there are five operational systems in place, one of which offers an armored capability through the mounted version of the trainer. The Air Ground Operations School (AGOS) operates three systems, with two simulator domes providing a 270-degree field of vision, thus ensuring a high-fidelity and immersive training experience.

As part of the IOC process, Interim Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) accreditation has been carried out in accordance with US and NATO JTAC regulations by the UK Joint Air Land Organisation (JALO). It is expected that the US and NATO Combined Standardisation Team will conduct validation and subsequently grant full accreditation during their visit to the UK in November 2023. The open architecture, provided by Elbit Systems UK, which forms the foundation of JFST, facilitates integration for joint coalition and partner exercises, as well as customization for potential export customers.

Richard Smart, the Joint Effects Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) for JFST, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "We are delighted to have worked closely with DE&S and ESUK to develop and deploy such a highly capable synthetic environment, which is a game changer for Joint Fires training."
