The Glock series, which also includes the 9x19 mm caliber models 43 Gen 4, 19, and 26, is already familiar to the Colombian market. Notably, the 17 Gen 3 model is currently in service with the Colombian Marine Infantry Corps (IMC), underscoring its military application.
Glock pistols are distinguished by their locked breech, short recoil operation, and high rate of fire. They are equipped with a modified barrel from the Peter/Browning safety system and the Safe Action System semi-double action trigger mechanism. This system replaces the traditional firing pin with a striker and eliminates manual safeties in favor of three integrated automatic safeties. Additionally, the pistols feature a modified extractor that also functions as a chamber load indicator, a broader locking block, and an additional cross pin for enhanced safety and performance.
The pistols offered by Glock in the Colombian market, while sharing key design and performance features, present notable differences tailored to various user needs and preferences.
The 9x19 mm caliber Glock 17 Gen.4 is known for its reliability and ease of use. Designed to be a versatile pistol, it is widely used in law enforcement and military circles, offering a generous magazine capacity and comfortable grip. The Gen.4 model introduces ergonomic improvements, such as better grip and customization options to fit different hand sizes.
The .40 caliber Glock 22 Gen.4 meets the needs of those seeking a more powerful caliber while maintaining the manageability of a standard service pistol. This model is valued for its superior accuracy and stopping power, making it a preferred choice for situations where firepower is crucial. Like the 17 Gen.4, it also benefits from the ergonomic improvements of Generation 4.
Finally, the 9x19 mm Glock 34 Gen.5 stands out with its extended barrel and precision-focused profile. This model is often chosen for competitive shooting sports and operations requiring good precision. Generation 5 brings additional improvements such as enhanced corrosion resistance, easier magazine removal, and improved operational reliability.
Each of these Glock models, while sharing the brand's reputation for robustness and reliability, thus offers specific characteristics designed to meet diverse needs, whether for law enforcement, personal defense, or shooting sports. With these new offerings, Glock aims to strengthen its position in the Colombian market.
