Hyundai Rotem introduces HR-Sherpa Unmanned Ground Vehicle.

Hyundai Rotem, known for its ground weapon systems such as the K2 tanks, has taken a significant step forward with the introduction of a versatile autonomous vehicle at ADEX 2023. Named the HR-Sherpa, this vehicle is an unmanned electric platform capable of carrying out various missions, ranging from surveillance to logistical support.

The HR-Sherpa by Hyundai Rotem is a versatile autonomous vehicle built on an unmanned electric platform. Although specific details about battery life and charging capabilities have not been disclosed, the vehicle is designed to perform a variety of missions, from surveillance to logistical support.

The HR-Sherpa is equipped with advanced autonomous driving technologies, including leader-following, remote operation, and waypoint-based autonomous driving. These features allow vehicles to navigate autonomously in complex environments and follow predefined routes or leader vehicles.

The vehicle has undergone field tests in sensitive areas like the GOP and the DMZ, attesting to its robustness and reliability. It is currently in service within the country's armed forces, indicating a high level of confidence in its operational capabilities.

Hyundai Rotem is working on improvements to enhance the HR-Sherpa's mobility and integrate more advanced sensors. These upgrades aim to make the vehicle even more effective in diverse missions and improve its autonomous driving capabilities.

In addition to its military applications, the HR-Sherpa is also designed for civilian uses. It can be employed for fire support tasks, surveillance, supply transfers, and even patient transfers. It is also equipped with a cargo box for objects weighing over 200 kg, making it attractive for use in the private sector.

Hyundai Rotem, a subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Group, has adopted cutting-edge autonomous driving technologies for the HR-Sherpa. The company also has plans to intensify its technological capabilities in unmanned systems through ongoing research and development.

Alongside this, Hyundai Rotem is also developing a 30-ton wheeled armored vehicle, designed to be resistant to attacks and adaptable for different missions. This new armored vehicle is equipped with defensive measures such as bullet and mine protection, as well as an overpressure system for defense against NBC agents.
