Marlin introduces new Dark Series lever-action rifles.

| 2023

Marlin has recently launched its Dark Series of lever-action rifles, blending classic design with contemporary tactical elements. The series includes the Dark Series 1895, 336, and 1894 models, each tailored to different calibers and preferences. The under-lever rifles are making a big comeback in the United States at the moment. This design, far from being modern, is returning to fashion, and this new announcement is just a testament to that.

A key feature of the Dark Series is the integration of nylon-reinforced polymer stocks equipped with M-LOK attachment slots. This feature allows for easy mounting of a wide range of accessories, enhancing the rifle's versatility and adaptability to various shooting scenarios.

In addition to the stock, the rifles feature an anodized aluminum handguard, also with M-LOK slots for accessory attachments. This addition further cements the Dark Series as a bridge between traditional rifle craftsmanship and modern tactical needs.

The Dark Series rifles boast a threaded barrel with a factory-installed radial muzzle brake, designed with an 11/16"-24 pattern, making it compatible with various barrel accessories. A thread protector is also included for added convenience and safety. Enhancing visibility, especially in low light conditions, is a fiber optic front sight equipped with a tritium ring.

The rifles are also equipped with a Picatinny rail, providing a reliable and stable mounting surface for scope rings and a variety of optics. This addition is particularly useful for shooters looking to customize their sighting solutions.

Comfort and usability are addressed with a recoil pad that effectively absorbs recoil, minimizing shooter fatigue and enhancing the overall shooting experience. A cheek riser is also included to ensure an optimum sight picture when using optics.

The Dark Series 1895 (Model #70901) is chambered in 45-70 Govt with a capacity of 5+1 and features a 16.17-inch (41 cm) barrel. It has a suggested retail price of $1,379 (about 1250€) and is currently available in limited quantities.

The 336 model (Model #70902), chambered in 30-30 Win, and the 1894 model (Model #70904), suitable for 44 Rem Mag / 44 Special, both feature the same advanced design elements and are set to be available in early 2024.

Thus, Marlin's Dark Series lever-action rifles merge tradition with modernity. However, it remains to be seen if this design genuinely adds to the weapon's functionality or if it is purely aesthetic.
