Poland signs contract for new batch of HOMAR-K MLRS rocket launcher chassis.

On December 21, 2023, Poland MoD announced an agreement for a new batch of 198 Jelcz chassis intended for the Multiple Rocket Launcher System (RSZV) HOMAR-K. This order, valued at approximately 1.5 billion złotys (approximately 345 million US dollars), is part of a comprehensive agreement for the period 2024-2027 and includes the integration of control and communication systems, as well as the installation of GPS receivers on the chassis.

This contract follows a previous order in December 2022 for 218 HOMAR-K launchers. The acquisition of the 198 chassis will fully meet the equipment needs for the first series of HOMAR-K launchers ordered in 2022.

The HOMAR-K, a hybrid adaptation of the South Korean K239 Chumnoo system, represents a groundbreaking collaboration in defense technology with the integration of the robust Chunmoo Rocket/Missile Launcher System onto the chassis of Poland's Jelcz 8x8 truck.

The introduction of the HOMAR-K is part of a broader defense strategy by Poland. The country has placed substantial orders for modern artillery systems, including, as previously mentioned, 218 units of the HOMAR-K MLRS from South Korea and an impressive total of 486 HIMARS MLRS units from the United States. This significant investment underscores Poland's commitment to strengthening its military power and modernizing its arsenal.

Indeed, the Polish army has embarked on the modernization of its arsenal with the HOMAR-K system, and progress in the project is already visible in the field. In December 2023, photographs were taken in Poland, showing the ongoing development of the multiple HOMAR-K launchers.

The total amount of the framework agreement is $3.55 billion US dollars. In addition to the launchers, Poland has also ordered several thousand munitions, including tactical rockets with a range of 290 km and over 10,000 guided rockets with a range of 80 km. Deliveries of these equipment are scheduled until 2027.

The second phase of this framework agreement will involve the transfer of rocket production technology to Polish companies, enabling the production of an additional series of 72 launchers, as well as a significant quantity of munitions directly from Polish facilities.

Furthermore, there are plans to integrate the HOMAR-K system with unguided rockets, already used in the 122 mm WR-40 Langusta launchers, thus extending its operational range to up to 40 km.

The HOMAR-K launcher is an adaptation of the South Korean multiple rocket system K239 Chunmoo, designed to use rockets of various calibers. Korean engineers have successfully integrated the K239 Chunmoo launcher onto the Polish Jelcz 8x8 chassis, demonstrating international cooperation in the field of defense.

Finally, it's worth noting that the HOMAR-K system has been equipped with Polish communication technologies and the TOPAZ combat management system. Additionally, in September, Poland unveiled the Multiple Rocket Launch System M142 HIMARS mounted on a Polish Jelcz chassis, further enhancing its defense and security capabilities.

This major acquisition strengthens Poland's position in international defense and security while contributing to the modernization and reinforcement of its national defense capabilities.
