In the context of the war in Ukraine, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have played a major role. Initially used by Ukrainians as a force equalizer against Russian air dominance, both sides now extensively utilize this technology, with new innovations almost every day. Their combat effectiveness is unquestionable, but what is particularly interesting is the destruction-to-cost ratio resulting from the use of drones. The decrease in UAV production costs and the improvement in their precision make them capable of destroying much more expensive equipment than the UAV itself. Numerous videos, photos, and testimonies report the destruction of equipment or vehicles by drones. Therefore, the development of dedicated production facilities is a natural progression.
ROSTEC is a Russian state-owned company specializing in the development, production, and export of high-tech industrial products. Founded in 2007, it brings together approximately 800 entities, including 15 affiliated companies, operating in both civil and military sectors. ROSTEC plays a key role in promoting technological innovation in Russia by supporting advanced projects and facilitating cooperation between companies in the industry. It provides advanced technological solutions in various fields, ranging from defense and aviation to electronics, telecommunications, energy, healthcare, and more. ROSTEC aims to enhance the competitiveness of the Russian industry on the international stage by developing quality products and fostering research and development.
As part of the project to establish a testing center for unmanned aviation systems, the Chelyabinsk radio plant, a ROSTEC subsidiary known as "Poliet," will serve as the base for the center. Engineers from this company will be dedicated to creating products aimed at ensuring the safety and flight management of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Poliet, as a member of ROSTEC, specializes in the production of radar and navigation equipment for airfields.
The main activities of the center will focus on specialized ground equipment, as well as navigation and communication systems. Design work for circuitry, board topologies, embedded software, and more will be carried out at the "Poliet" plant. The plant will also be responsible for testing new products and launching them into serial production. The project envisages utilizing the scientific potential of Chelyabinsk State University for training highly qualified specialists for the industry. InSmart, on the other hand, will supply the necessary components to the center.
The establishment of this testing center is a logical development given the prominence of drones in the Ukraine war. This project will undoubtedly enhance Russia's ability to design and produce more effective drones.
