For several months, the Russian defense industry continues to deliver to its armed forces large quantity of Main Battle Tanks (MTBs) such as the T-72B3 and the T-90M, and despite the international economic embargo, the production of tanks do not seem to decrease.
The Russian army operates a large number of tanks, but the exact number is not publicly available. As of 2021, the Russian army has been reported to have around 2,500 tanks in active service and several thousand more in reserve. However, this number is likely to be constantly changing and updating, so the information may not be accurate. The Russian army operates several types of tanks, including the T-90, T-80, and T-72. Additionally, Russia has been actively modernizing its tank fleet and developing new models in recent years.
The T-90M is a modernized version of the T-90 main battle tank, which is in service with the Russian military. The T-90M is also known as the "Proryv-3" or "Breakthrough-3" in Russian. It is manufactured by the Uralvagonzavod factory in Nizhny Tagil, Russia.
The T-90M features several improvements over the original T-90, including a new turret, an improved gun, and advanced armor. It is also equipped with a new fire control system and advanced communications systems.
The T-90M is considered as on the most protected main battle produced in Russia. The tank's armor is made up of a combination of steel, ceramic, and composite materials. The T-90M's turret is particularly well-protected, with the use of advanced composite armor and modular armor design, which allows for the replacement of damaged armor plates. The turret is also equipped with an RPG net designed to protect a vehicle or building from rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and other anti-tank weapons.
The T-90M is armed with a 125mm smoothbore gun, a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and one 12.7mm heavy machine gun mounted in a remotely operated weapon station located on the turret roof. Additionally, the T-90M can fire a wide of ammunition as well as anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), which can be fired from the main gun. The ATGMs have a range of up to 5 km, making the T-90M a formidable weapon against both armored and non-armored targets.
