Russia to develop nuclear triad and expand strike capabilities with drones and aircraft.

Russia will continue developing its nuclear triad in 2023, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said at the ministry’s conference call on Tuesday, January 10: “We will continue to develop the nuclear triad and maintain its combat readiness because the nuclear shield remains the main guarantee of our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

Russia will also expand the strike capabilities of the army and upgrade its hardware and outfit. “Our nearest plans include expanding the arsenal of the latest strike capabilities. Upgrading the military personnel’s tactical outfit as much as possible will soon be a priority”, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said. “An important task is to rapidly upgrade the gear and tactical outfit of the personnel to the highest level. Everything a soldier needs should be modern, convenient and reliable,” the minister said.

Russia will focus on improving drones and the capabilities of fighter jets and bombers to operate in hostile air defense areas. “We will raise the combat potential of the Aerospace Forces with regard to the capabilities of fighters and bombers to operate in the area of modern air defense and upgrade unmanned aerial vehicles,” the minister said.

“We need to constantly analyze and systemize the experience of our operations in Ukraine and Syria, use it to update training programs, and draft the plans for hardware supplies. The experience obtained by our forces should be the basis for updating combat training,” he said.

The system of control and communications will be upgraded in 2023 with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. “We need to enhance the control and communications system. To this end, we will actively use the technologies of artificial intelligence,” Shoigu said. The Defense Ministry will digitize the databases of conscription offices and promote their interaction with local and regional authorities.
