Russia Unveils Self-Propelled Anti-Tank Missile System Based on BT-3F with Kornet-E Launchers.

Russia has revealed a cutting-edge self-propelled anti-tank missile system designed explicitly for marine infantry, based on the armored personnel carrier chassis of the BT-3F. The photographs of this new vehicle were released on August 11, 2023, by Russian media. The image shows the BT-3F, an armored personnel carrier, equipped with the Kornet-E anti-tank missile system, featuring two launchers.

This anti-tank missile system was developed to target heavily armored vehicles, fortifications, and non-armored targets. The missile guidance is semi-automatic, utilizing laser targeting. The system's ammunition includes guided missiles with tandem-shaped charge, fragmentation, and thermobaric warheads.

The Kornet-E boasts a tandem warhead of 152mm, allowing it to effectively penetrate enemy armor, even in the presence of Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). With an estimated penetration capability of 1,000 to 1,200mm of Rolled Homogeneous Armor (RHA) after ERA, and the ability to penetrate up to 3 to 3.5m of concrete, the Kornet-E is prepared to confront the most resilient defenses.

It features a range extending from 100 to 5,500m during daytime operations and can achieve speeds of over 250m/s. Weighing 29kg, including its container, the Kornet-E is relatively lightweight considering its high-performance capabilities. Its dimensions include a body diameter of 160mm and a wingspan of 460mm. The missile's length is 1.1m, while the tube reaches 1.21m.

The BT-3F, a versatile armored personnel carrier jointly designed by Russia and Indonesia, typically comes equipped with a remotely operated weapon station armed with a 7.62mm machine gun, in addition to another machine gun of the same caliber. However, the vehicle showcased here is not equipped with this armament, as Kornet-E launchers have replaced it.

The equipment on the BT-3F includes thermal imaging night vision, a laser range finder, a firing sight, a TV channel, as well as a Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) protection system, and a fire-fighting equipment system. It has a crew of 2 personnel, in addition to being capable of transporting 13 troops.

The BT-3F boasts a speed of 70 km/h, allowing it to move swiftly across various terrains. With an operational range of 600 km, this vehicle can support large-scale operations over significant distances. The BT-3F has the following dimensions: length of 7.0 meters, width of 3.30 meters, and height of 3.0 meters.

The new vehicle designed for marine infantry has also been reinforced with armored screens featuring welded anti-cumulative grids on the sides and front projection. It remains to be determined whether the showcased chassis retains the capability for troop transport or if it has been completely reconfigured as a self-propelled system for anti-tank missions.
