In the Army 2023 international military-technical forum, which took place in the Moscow region on August 15, 2023, Dmitry Shugaev, the head of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, affirmed that the delivery of S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems to India is proceeding according to schedule. We now have confirmation of its arrival on Indian soil following the publication of a photo on a Twitter account showing the S-400 being transported along a road.

It's noteworthy that back in October 2018, India entered into an agreement with Russia to procure five squadrons of S-400 Triumf air defense missiles. The third squadron's proposed deployment in either Punjab or Rajasthan, aimed at addressing potential security concerns from Pakistan, was reported by the Indian news outlet News 18.

The first two squadrons of S-400 missiles, designated as SA-21 Growler in NATO terminology, arrived in December 2021 and April 2022 respectively. These deployments were strategically placed to ensure border security and enhance defense capabilities against neighboring nations. According to ANI reports, the initial two squadrons were specifically tasked with surveilling the Ladakh sector, which covers the critical "Chicken's Neck corridor" in West Bengal and the entirety of the northeastern region.

The India-Russia agreement concerning the S-400 system has garnered significant attention due to its possible impact on India's relationship with the United States. The US expressed apprehensions about potential sanctions, citing concerns about India's defense collaboration with Russia and the potential dual-use nature of Russian technology. Nonetheless, India has firmly stated that its national security priorities underscore the importance of the S-400 agreement. The country has consistently upheld its position of strategic autonomy and the entitlement to diversify its defense procurements.

The S-400 is a sophisticated air defense system renowned for its ability to neutralize airborne threats such as aircraft, missiles, and drones, at distances of up to 400 km. The system boasts the capacity to simultaneously track and engage numerous targets, further enhancing India's defense capabilities.
