Thales to Supply Seven Additional GM200 MM/C Radar systems to Netherlands.

| Defense News Army 2024

Thales and the Dutch military procurement organization, COMMIT (Command Materiel and IT), have recently finalized an agreement for the delivery of seven Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact radars (GM200 MM/C), with an option for two additional systems. This new contract adds to the nine GM200 MM/C radar systems already ordered in 2019, the first of which was officially launched with the Ministry of Defense on February 14, 2024.

The GM200 MM/C is primarily used for air surveillance and as a component of air defense systems. It is known for its adaptability and mobility, housed in a 20-inch container frame for easy deployment. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as 4D AESA and dual-axis multi-beam technology, it enables simultaneous detection, tracking, and classification of targets, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This design allows for easy placement on various terrains and mounting on vehicles, such as the Scania Gryphus used by the Dutch Army, enabling rapid repositioning to meet operational requirements.

Part of Thales' 4D AESA radar family, the GM200 MM/C includes a range of modules such as NS50, NS100, and NS200, among others. As a software-defined system, it can receive updates to adapt to evolving defense needs over time. The radar can identify and monitor a variety of threats, including rockets, artillery, mortars, missiles, aircraft, and UAVs, operating continuously under various conditions, even where GPS and electronic warfare capabilities are compromised.

Features of the GM200 MM/C also include cyber resilience and the ability to interface with NATO secret networks, aiming for secure data transmission. Its radar technology includes a dual-axis multi-beam Active Electronic Scanning Array (AESA), designed to enhance fire support and situational awareness through improved detection, tracking, and classification capabilities.

The radar system is integrated into a Scania Gryphus vehicle for the Dutch forces, ensuring rapid deployment and tactical mobility that meet the demands of modern operational theaters. The GM200 MM/C can be operational within a minute of arrival at a destination, making it a valuable tool for the mobility and responsiveness of armed forces.

Thales launched the first radar of this series last month to the Dutch Ministry of Defense, designed in close cooperation with the Dutch Army to meet all operational needs of a modern military force. The success of this system is also due to its robust design, which incorporates the field expertise of the Dutch Army and Thales' advanced engineering, providing an effective solution to both traditional and new threats, including drones. The system's capability for rapid and early detection, with a range of up to 400 kilometers, is crucial for maintaining a lead and protecting sovereignty and critical infrastructure.

Gerben Edelijn, CEO of Thales Netherlands, expressed satisfaction with the Royal Dutch Armed Forces' renewed trust in acquiring seven more systems, with two additional ones as an option, highlighting Thales' commitment to supporting the safety and security of military personnel and contributing to the air sovereignty of NATO nations in Europe.
