Among the key highlights of the rehearsal was the public appearance of the French-built VBMR Griffon armored vehicle, now officially in service with the Belgian Land Component. The rehearsal included the first Griffon vehicle fully assembled in Belgium, representing the tangible outcome of the CaMo (Capacité Motorisée) program signed with France. This marks a historic industrial step for the Belgian defense sector and affirms Belgium’s long-term commitment to European defense integration. The 6x6 Griffon, equipped with a remote weapon station and advanced communication suite, is set to become the backbone of Belgium’s new motorized brigades.

Also making its debut in the rehearsal was the American-made JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle), known as FALCON CLV in the Belgian army, which was recently acquired to strengthen the Belgian army’s light tactical mobility fleet. The Falcon’s presence at the rehearsal demonstrated Belgium’s transatlantic defense ties and its shift toward more survivable and versatile platforms. Designed by Oshkosh Defense, the JLTV will serve a range of roles including reconnaissance, troop transport, and command operations.

The Belgian National Day military parade also featured participation from allied nations, further reinforcing Belgium’s position within NATO and European defense frameworks. The French Army showcased its agile VBL light armored vehicle, which is widely deployed in rapid reaction forces. Luxembourg contributed its Dingo 2 armored vehicles, offering proven mine and IED protection for transport roles. The Netherlands was represented with the Fennek reconnaissance vehicle, highlighting trilateral cooperation in reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities.

This early parade preview offered a comprehensive view of Belgium’s new generation of armored vehicles in an operational context, confirming their integration into the national defense structure. The rehearsal underscored the army’s focus on mobility, protection, and digital interoperability across joint and multinational formations.

As Belgium approaches its National Day 2025, the presence of these modern combat vehicles during the rehearsal reflects a strategic transformation of its ground forces, showcasing both national industry achievements and a firm commitment to collective European security.
