VIDEX 2024 Retrospective: Exclusive Interview with Iran and Immersion into Vietnam’s Defense Innovation.
From December 19 to 22, 2024, Hanoi hosted the Vietnam International Defence Expo (VIDEX), bringing together nearly 250 exhibitors from 50 countries. For the first time, Army Recognition was on-site to conduct exclusive interviews with participants, including representatives from Iran, Viettel, and Vietnam’s defense industry. This video retrospective immerses viewers in the highlights of this strategic event in Southeast Asia, where industrial ambitions, new international cooperation, and advanced technology are showcased and converged.

Attending a defense exhibition in Vietnam for the first time, representatives from Iran’s Ministry of Defense presented a broad range of equipment, including electronic warfare systems, munitions, communications, avionics, missile systems, and UAVs.
One of the key highlights of the 2024 edition was Iran’s participation, marking a historic first. Attending a defense exhibition in Vietnam for the first time, representatives from Iran’s Ministry of Defense presented a broad range of equipment, including electronic warfare systems, munitions, communications, avionics, missile systems, and UAVs. This presence enabled Tehran to demonstrate its technical capabilities and initiate new dialogues with potential partners in the region. The on-camera interview conducted by Army Recognition gave Iranian officials an opportunity to share their impressions of the event, express their satisfaction with the interactions in Hanoi, and emphasize their intention to strengthen their presence in Asia.
Another major presence at the show was the Vietnam Defense Industry, which served as the national showcase of local capabilities. The booth featured a wide range of equipment including small arms, ammunition, drones, loitering munitions, and a new 100 mm mortar designed for vehicle mounting. Entirely developed and produced locally, the system reflects Vietnam’s drive to modernize its military forces while reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. Combining mobility with operational effectiveness, the semi-automatic mortar offers a firing rate of 6 to 10 rounds per minute and a range of 6 to 10 kilometers, with a total weight of approximately 1.5 tons.
Viettel also made a strong impression with its expansive 2,600 m² booth, where over 80 high-tech products were showcased, including several new developments. A dual-use technology specialist, Viettel presented solutions across ten key areas: radar systems, electro-optics, electronic warfare, military communications, simulation training, command and control, drones, cybersecurity, and space technology. One of the key systems was the VCU3/P.DJG anti-drone jamming rifle, capable of disrupting signals across widely used frequency bands. Other highlights included a comprehensive range of drones and loitering munitions, as well as an immersive combat simulator—demonstrating Viettel’s capacity to provide fully integrated next-generation defense solutions.
VIDEX 2024 confirmed Vietnam’s growing role in international military cooperation. With historic firsts, domestic innovation, and industrial ambitions on full display, the exhibition established itself as a strategic hub between Asia and the wider world. Army Recognition invites you to discover the behind-the-scenes dynamics of this unique event through exclusive interviews with Iranian and Vietnamese exhibitors.
