Northern Theater of the Chinese Navy conducts drills to improve PLA Navy abilities.
Recently, the Northern Theater of the Chinese Navy launched at least three naval exercises in multiple waters. The People's Liberation Army is intended to respond to provocations and improve the PLA Navy's combat capabilities.

Recently, the guided-missile frigates Handan and Daqing of a destroyer detachment of the Northern Theater of the Chinese Navy carried out multi-subject, full-element combat exercises in certain waters of the Yellow Sea. During 96 consecutive hours of training, in order to test and improve the combat capability of the ship system.
The combat drills came amid escalating tensions at sea between China and the U.S., which were caused by the repeated U.S. provocations near China, especially in the Taiwan Straits and the South China Sea.
The Northern Theater Command Navy or the North Sea Fleet is one of the three fleets of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy, under the Northern Theater Command. In September 1950 the Qingdao Army Base was redesignated as a naval base. Following the departure of the Soviet Navy from Lüshunkou (Port Arthur), the North Sea Fleet was established in 1960 with naval bases in Qingdao and Lüshunkou.
The Type 054A (NATO codename Jiangkai II) frigate is a class of Chinese multi-role frigates, the first of which entered service with the People's Liberation Army Navy Surface Force in 2007. It is a development of the Type 054 frigate, using the same hull but with improved sensors and weapons.
