Russia showcases new nuclear submarine Arktur at Army 2022.
According to information published by Milinfolive on August 18, 2022, the Russian firm Rubin demonstrated at the Army-2022 exhibition its vision for the possible future of strategic missile submarine: the Arktur nuclear submarine concept design.

The new faceted shape of the Arktur's outline, together with the ship's reduced size and advanced active coating, reduces the reflected sonar signal and decreases the detection range of the submarine.
Rubin's representative said that the use of a distributed shaftless power plant with full electric propulsion helps reduce noise, and the presence of two thrusters increases the maneuverability and reliability of the missile carrier.
He stressed that stealth will remain the main feature of submarine cruisers, but the ways to detect submarines are constantly evolving, which means the ways to ensure stealth should also change. Decreasing noisiness is causing active low-frequency systems to play an increasing role in detection.
The Arktur will have a 20% lower displacement due to improved missile weapons, she will be more stealthy due to its faceted shape and shaftless energy
The submarine will be able to detect the enemy earlier thanks to drones. Small and medium-sized vehicles can be placed in the ship's mines, larger ones overboard
"These decisions are also important in terms of Arktur's most promising area of application - the high-latitude Arctic. Interest in this area will only grow in the decades to come. The faceted shape of the contours makes it easier to break the ice when surfacing and does not allow it to linger on the shaft covers, and better controllability is important for taking a position in the ice-holes," concluded the agency interlocutor.
