NATO is taking proactive steps to address maritime threats more effectively. During the Vilnius Summit, NATO leaders reached a consensus to establish the NATO Maritime Center for the Security of Critical Undersea Infrastructure within NATO's Maritime Command (MARCOM) in the United Kingdom. This decision serves to elevate our situational awareness, strengthening deterrence and defense capabilities within the maritime sphere. Earlier in the year, NATO initiated the creation of a Critical Undersea Infrastructure Coordination Cell at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, with the primary aim of improving information sharing and promoting the exchange of best practices among NATO Allies, partner nations, and the private sector. The Digital Ocean Vision initiative will further amplify maritime situational awareness, particularly with regard to safeguarding critical undersea infrastructure.
As the next step in this endeavor, NATO Allies will collaboratively develop a roadmap that will guide the future development of maritime capabilities. This roadmap will be aligned with other ongoing efforts across the Alliance, including NATO's Digital Transformation and the Defense Production Action Plan.
