Poland holds steel cutting ceremony for 2nd Delfin class spy ship ORP Henryk Zygalski.

According to information published by the Polish Armed Forces on November 15, 2023, a milestone was reached at the Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. shipyard in Gdańsk with the ceremonial cutting of steel for the second Delfin class sigint ship.

Previously, on July 27, the keel-laying ceremony for the first ship of this series, named ORP Jerzy Różycki, was held at the same shipyard. This follows the ceremonial steel cutting for the new ship, which occurred on April 27. The Polish Navy is expected to receive both the first and second ships by 2027.

A significant contract was signed on November 25, 2022, between the State Treasury - Armament Agency and Saab AB, for the delivery of the DELFIN electronic reconnaissance ships. This agreement, valued at approximately 600 million Euros net, aims to enhance the Polish Armed Forces' capabilities in gathering intelligence through maritime electronic reconnaissance systems, with delivery of both ships scheduled by 2027.

These maritime electronic reconnaissance systems will enable the acquisition of intelligence across the entire spectrum of maritime electronic reconnaissance (SIGINT). The detailed specifications of the system are classified.

It's noteworthy that these ships will be constructed at the Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A., with Sweden providing specialized equipment. The contract will also involve other entities from the Polish defense industry, ensuring significant domestic participation in this project.
