This vessel is the first of four frigates planned under the Tamandaré-class Frigate Program (PFCT), entirely constructed within Brazil. The event, which took place at the thyssenkrupp Estaleiro Brasil Sul (tkEBS) shipyard, was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Defense Minister José Mucio Monteiro, Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen.

About the frigates

These vessels, developed under the Tamandaré Corvettes Class Programme (CCT), are based on the MEKO A-100 design. The class comprises four ships.

These frigates are scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2029. The Tamandaré-class is a result of collaboration between the Águas Azuis consortium, which includes ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, Embraer Defense & Security, and Atech.

Each frigate is designed for a variety of roles, including anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare, with advanced systems such as the Sea Ceptor missile system for air defense, MANSUP anti-ship missiles, and Mark 46 torpedoes for undersea threats. The frigates are equipped with sophisticated radars and sensors, including the Hensoldt TRS-4D radar and Safran's Paseo XLR optronic systems
