The POMs are set to renew the French Navy's resources, ensuring sovereignty and protecting national interests in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They replace the older P400 patrol vessels. The Félix Éboué-class honors notable French overseas personalities from World War II who joined the Free French Forces.
On July 17, 2024, Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, Chief of Staff of the French Navy, officially inducted the Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai. This follows a lengthy deployment that began on March 16, after the vessel departed the Brest naval base. It was delivered to the Navy by the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) on June 7 in Papeete.
The patrol vessel undertook an extensive journey across the Atlantic, rounding Cape Horn before arriving at its home port of Papeete via the Pacific Ocean. This mission tested the ship's capabilities in various environments, including navigating under asymmetric threats, artillery deployment, nautical reconnaissance raids, towing, and assisting distressed vessels.
As part of the capacity renewal for overseas forces, the Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai will bolster the French Navy's presence within the French Polynesian Armed Forces, performing sovereignty missions across the Pacific's vast maritime spaces. It will also engage in combating illegal maritime activities and preserving marine resources within the extensive Polynesian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The POM Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai boasts advanced surveillance capabilities with the implementation of the Navy's Embedded Mini Drone System (SMDM). Its operational range is double that of its predecessors, allowing for extended and far-reaching missions.
