Turkey launches second Ada-class corvette Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky for Ukrainian Navy.

According to information published by Dumskaya on August 1, 2024, the second Ada-class corvette for the Ukrainian Navy, named Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky (F-212), was launched at the Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. (STM) shipyard in Turkey.

The first corvette in this class, named after Ivan Mazepa, is already completed and undergoing trials in the Black Sea. This vessel is expected to become the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy.

Technical data

These corvettes are based on the MILGEM project, originally developed for the Turkish Navy, and have been tailored to meet Ukraine's specific defense needs. Hetman Ivan Mazepa is equipped with advanced systems such as the Gökdeniz 35mm anti-aircraft gun and the French MICA VL missile system.

The Gökdeniz CIWS can engage air threats up to 4 km away with a high rate of fire, while the MICA VL missiles provide air defense with a range of up to 20 km.

The corvettes are designed for multi-role operations, including anti-submarine warfare, maritime patrol, and coastal defense. They are equipped with sophisticated sensors and weaponry, including the Smart-S Mk 2 air surveillance radar, Leonardo 76 mm Super Rapid gun, and Aselsan's STAMP remote-controlled weapon stations. The ships also feature capabilities for anti-ship missile deployment, with options including Harpoon and potentially the indigenous Neptune missile.
