Saab has signed a contract with Damen Naval to supply key combat systems for the Colombian Navy’s new Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) frigate. The agreement includes Saab’s 9LV Combat Management and Fire Control Systems, along with essential sensors and radars, which will enhance the frigate's capabilities. The vessel is expected to be delivered in 2030.

The combat systems will include advanced Ceros 200 radars, an optronic tracking fire control director, the EOS 500 electro-optical fire control director, and Saab’s Sea Giraffe 4A radars. These systems are designed to improve the frigate's situational awareness and operational effectiveness in various maritime defense scenarios.

Carl-Johan Bergholm, Senior Vice President and Head of the Surveillance Business Area at Saab, expressed his pride in this collaboration. “The PES program is state-of-the-art, and we are honored that the Colombian Navy has selected Saab to supply their combat system. Our partnership with Damen Naval marks an important step in the naval domain, as it is our first cooperation with them,” said Bergholm.

The new PES frigate will be built by the Colombian shipbuilder COTECMAR in Cartagena, while Damen Naval will provide engineering expertise, technical support, and the necessary materials for the ship's construction. The design of the new frigate is based on the Damen Naval SIGMA 10514 series, a platform renowned for its flexibility and advanced capabilities.

Saab’s involvement in the PES program underscores its commitment to providing cutting-edge defense technologies and strengthening international naval partnerships. With delivery scheduled for 2030, this collaboration is expected to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Colombian Navy, contributing to maritime security in the region.
