Russian captured armored, tanks and combat vehicles are now used by Ukrainian armed forces.


As of 26 June 2022, 188 T-72 Russian tanks including T-72A, T-72AV, T-72B, T-72BA, T-72B3, and T-72B3M have been visually confirmed captured by the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Territorial Defense Forces, and the National Guard. 

The family of T-72 main battle tanks is armed with one 125 mm (2A46) smoothbore gun fitted with a light-alloy thermal sleeve and a bore evacuator. The T-72A is the most popular version in the T-72 family. 

The T-72AV is a modernized version of the Soviet-made main battle tank T-72B. This tank is fitted with new armor, a new engine, and a new sighting system The T-72AV entered into service with the Russian armed forces in 1985.

The T-72B MBT was developed from the Russian main battle tank T-72A. It was entered into service with the Russian army in 1984. Its turret has a new armor package that provides a much higher degree of protection than any previous model of the T-72 MBT. In addition,, the glacis plate is provided with 20 mm of appliqué armor.

The T-72BA is used to refer to several models of late model T-72B, stripped-down, refurbished and upgraded with certain core components at Uralvagonzavod between 1998–2005. The frontal hull floor plate was reinforced against mines, the driver's seat is now suspended from the ceiling instead of being fixed to the floor and the driver's station has a new steering system as well as a new TVN-5 night sight. These tanks are equipped with the V-84MS engine using an upgraded exhaust system and newly developed twin-pin tracks (used on the T-90A). The upgrade also included the integration of a DWE-BS wind sensor whose mast is located on the rear, left part of turret and which feeds information into the 1A40 fire control system automatically.

The T-72B3 is a development of the standard Russian-made T-72B series currently in service in the Russian army. The T-72B3 version was introduced in 2010 and is considered as a third-generation of Russian main battle tank. It has significantly improved its combat characteristics with more firepower, protection, mobility, and command controllability. Besides the improved armor and targeting systems, it kept all the good features of previous versions of T-72.

The T-72B3M is an upgraded version of the T-72B3 which is the latest modernized version of the T-72. The T-72B3M project was unveiled to the public during the Final of the International Russian army Tank Biathlon competition in October 2014.

The main armament of the T72B3M / T-72B4 consists of one 2A46M5 125-mm smoothbore gun which is a modernized variant of the standard 2A46M cannon, also known as the D-81TM. The tank is protected with the new Relikt explosive reactive armor. It will replace the old Kontakt-5 system and is expected to be two times more effective..

Around 60 Russian T-80BV, T-80BVM, T-80UK, T-80UE1 and T-80U Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) have been visually confirmed captured during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine as of 26 June 2022, with some put to use by the 93rd Mechanized Brigade.

The T-80 is a family of main battle tanks and according to the military balance 2021, the Russian army has 310 T-80BV/U and 140 T-80BVM. All the variants of the T-80 MBT family is armed with one 125mm 2A46 smoothbore gun which can fire a full range of ammunition including APFSDS (Armour-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding-Sabot), HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank), HE-Frag (High Explosive Fragmentation) and training.

The T-80BV is an upgrade version of the T-80B Main Battle Tank (MBT) which entered into service with the Russian armed forces in 1985. It features the Sosna-U fire-control system that incorporates optical sight, laser rangefinder and thermal imager, as well as an ATGM control channel, an updated energy generator and engine starter, and advanced explosive reactive armor (ERA) plates.

The T-80U is an improved version of the Russian-made T-80 MBT (Main Battle Tank) that entered into service with the Russian army in 1985. It has improved armor protection, a new 125 mm gun, and a fire-control system that allows the tank commander or gunner to aim and fire the main armament.

The T-80UK is the command version of the T-80U. It has additional communication equipment, a 1 kW auxiliary generating unit, and Installation of TShU1-7 Shtora-1 countermeasures system.

The T-80UE1 is an upgraded version of the T-80U, fitted with a thermal sight. This version was officially adopted by the Russian Army in 2005. Only a small number of these tanks were built.

As of 16 June 2022, at least nine T-90A tanks have been captured from Russian forces by Ukrainian forces. The T-90A is a Russian-made main battle tank and the successor of the standard T-90. T-90As entered service in 2005, replacing the aging T-72s and T-80s and forming the backbone of Russian ground forces.

The main armament of the T-90A MBT consists of one 125mm 2A46M-5 smoothbore gun which fires conventional natures of separate loading ammunition (projectile and charge) including HE-FRAG (high-explosive fragmentation) and APFSDS-T (Armour Piercing Fin Stabilised Discarding Sabot - Tracer).

The hull and turret of the T-90A over the forward arc is fitted with the latest generation Kontakt-5 ERA third-generation explosive reactive armor which provides protection against APFSDS and HEAT-type projectiles. In addition to being fitted to the hull and turret, ERA panels are also fitted on either side of the hull front to provide lateral protection to each side of the driver's compartment. To improve its battlefield survivability the T-90A is fitted with the TShU1-7 Shtora-1 countermeasures system which is also fitted to some models of the T-80UD and T-84 (Ukraine) MBTs.

As of 22 June 2022, at least 67 BMP-2s had been captured from Russian and separatist forces during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the largest number among the Russian-made IFVs.

The BMP-2 is a tracked infantry armored fighting vehicle designed and manufactured by the Russian defense industry. enters in service with the Russian armed forces in 1980, and the vehicle was seen for the first time in public during a military parade on the Red Square in Moscow, in November 1982.

The BMP-2 is fitted with a two-man turret armed with a stabilized 30 mm cannon 2A42 and a 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun mounted to the left of the main armament with 2,000 rounds. A bank of three smoke grenade dischargers is mounted on each side of the turret. The BMP-2 is also able to create a smokescreen by injecting diesel fuel into the exhaust outlet on the right side of the hull. Mounted on the turret roof between the gunner's and commander's hatches is a launcher for an AT-4 SPIGOT or AT-5 SPANDREL ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile) which has a maximum range of 4,000 m.

As of 26 June 2022, 39 BMP-3s had been captured from Russian and separatist forces during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The BMP-3 is a Russian-made tracked amphibious infantry fighting vehicle, a successor to the BMP-1 and BMP-2, which entered service with the Soviet army in 1990 and made its first public appearance the same year.

The main armament of the BMP-3 consists of one 100mm 2A70 semi-automatic rifled gun/missile launcher, which is stabilized in two axes and can fire either 3UOF HE-FRAG rounds or 3UBK10 anti-tank guided missiles. The second armament includes one 30 mm 2A72 coaxial cannon and one 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun. The dual-feed 30 mm 2A72 cannon can engage ground targets at ranges of 1,500 to 2,000 m and helicopters out to 4,000 m. One 7.62 mm PKT machine gun is mounted on either side of the hull, firing forwards and these are operated by one of the front three crew members.

As of 6 April 2022 41 BMD-2 have been captured by Ukraine soldiers from the Russian and separatist forces by the Ukrainian army.

The BMD-2 is an airborne tracked armored IFV Infantry Fighting Vehicle designed by the Russian defense Company Arkadyi Shabalin. The first prototype of the BMD-2 was completed in 1985 and was first seen in 1988.

The BMD-2 is fitted with a one-man turret armed with a 30 mm 2A42 stabilized cannon, which is also used in the BMP-2 infantry combat vehicle, has an elevation of +75º and a depression of -5º. A coaxial 7.62 mm PKT machine gun is mounted to the right side of the main armament. An AT-4 Spigot or AT-5 Spandrel anti-tank guided missile launcher is mounted on the right side of the turret roof. a second 7.62mm PKT machine gun is mounted on the right side, at the front of the hull.

As of May 28, 2022, 7 BMD-3 and BTR-MDM "Rakushka were captured by the Ukrainian armed forces.

The BMD-3 is an airborne tracked armored infantry fighting vehicle designed and manufactured by the Russian Defense Company Volgograd Tractor Plant. The first production of BMD-3 was delivered in 1990 to Russian airborne units followed by naval infantry units.

The BMD-3 is equipped with a two-man turret which is armed with a 30mm 2A42 dual-feed automatic cannon and one 7.62mm PKT coaxial machine gun. Mounted at the front of the BMD-3 on the left side is a 30 mm AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher while on the right bow is a 5.45 mm RPKS machine gun. Each of the bow weapons is operated by one of the infantry seated in the front of the BMD-3 and covers the frontal arc.

The BTR-MDM Rakushka is a further development of the BTR-MD airborne tracked multi-role armored vehicle. The BTR-MDM was unveiled for the first time during the 9th International Exhibition of Arms, Military Equipment and Ammunition Russian Arms Expo which was held from 25 - 28 September 2013 in the city of Nizhny Tagil, Russia.

The BTR-MDM Rakushka is equipped with a remote weapon station mounted to the top left side of the hull armed with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun. Another 7.62mm machine gun is mounted at the front right side of the hull. Two smoke grenade dischargers are mounted to each side at the front of the vehicle.

The BTR-MDM is an airborne troop carrier vehicle. the crew consists of a commander and driver and it has 13 seats for military personnel.

As of 10 April 2022, the Ukrainian army has captured at least 11 BMD-4M amphibious infantry fighting vehicles.

The BMD-4M is the latest generation of Russian-made airborne armored infantry fighting vehicles that can be para-dropped to provide firepower and support for airborne troops. It is an upgraded variant of the BMD-4 (BMD-3M).

The BMD-4M is fitted with a two-man turret armed with a 2A70 100mm caliber gun, coupled to a 30mm 2A72 cannon and a 7.62mm PKT coaxial machine gun mounted to the right of the main armament. The crew consists of commander, gunner, driver, and six infantrymen.

As of 26 June 2022, over 101 MT-LBs and 5 MT-LBu's had been captured from Russian forces. The MT-LB is a multipurpose tracked armored vehicle that was designed in Ukraine early 1960s. In the Russian army, more than 80 variants are available and a total of 1,493 vehicles are still in service.

The standard version of the MT-LB is equipped with a small one-man turret located at the right front top of the troop's compartment. The turret is armed with a 7.62mm PKT machine gun.

As of June 26, 2022, 28 BTR-80s have been visually confirmed captured from Russian forces by Ukrainian servicemen, together with at least 55 BTR-82As

The BTR-80 is a Russian-made 8x8 armored vehicle personnel carrier (APC) designed and manufactured by the Company Arzamas Machinery Construction Plant of Nizhny Novgorod. It is fitted with a one-man turret armed with one 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun and one 7.62mm PKVT coaxial machine gun.

The BTR-80 can carry seven infantrymen, along with a crew of three, consisting of a commander, gunner, and driver.

The BTR-82A is an upgraded version of the BTR-80A wheeled armored vehicles that entered into service with the Russian army in 2016. The firepower of the BTR-82A is increased by the use of a new unified fighting module with an electric drive armed with one 2A72 30mm cannon coupled with a 7.62 mm machine gun.

The BTR-82A weighs 15,400kg, ita has a crew of three, and can accommodate up to seven infantrymen.

As of 26 June 2022, at least three Rys LMV IVECO had been visually confirmed captured by Ukrainian forces from Russian and separatist forces during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Rys is a Russian version of the Italian-made LMV (Light Multirole Vehicle) manufactured by IVECO Defense Vehicles. Russia signed a deal with Italy’s Iveco company in December 2011 on the semi-knocked down assembly of Lynx light multirole armored vehicles for the Russian Ground Forces in the central Russian city of Voronezh.

The layout of the Rys is standard for a light tactical vehicle with the engine at the front, crew and troops area in the middle, and cargo compartment at the rear. The vehicle can carry four military personnel with a driver and commander at the front and two more soldiers at the rear.

Kamaz-53949 Typhoon-K is a 4×4 mine-protected armored vehicle manufactured by Remdiesel, a subsidiary of KAMAZ. It is primarily used to safely transport troops and military cargoes in mine-inflated zones. It can also be configured as a command post vehicle, ambulance, and logistics support vehicle.

As of 26 June 2022, at least two Tigr and 28 Tigr-M variants had been visually confirmed captured from the Russian Armed Forces.

The GAZ-2330 "Tigr" is the military version of the vehicle and has been referred to as "the Russian Humvee". can be armed with a light machine gun or grenade launcher. Hatches and brackets for installation of 7.62mm Pecheneg machinegun and 30mm AGS-17 grenade launchers are mounted on the vehicle’s roof.

The standard version of the Tigr vehicle can accommodate a driver and up to 11 military personnel.

The Tigr-M or GAZ-233114 is an improved version of the standard 4x4 light tactical vehicle Tigr GAZ-2330. It can be armed with a light machine gun or grenade launcher. The layout of the Tigr-M GAZ-233114 is standard with the engine at the front, the crew seats in the middle, and the troop’s compartment at the rear.

As of 24 June 2022, at least three KamAZ-53949-Linza MRAP Medevac vehicles have been captured from the Russian Armed Forces.

The KamAZ-53949 is a 4x4 Russian-made mine-protected vehicle. The standard version has a crew of 2 and can carry 8 fully-equipped soldiers. The Linza is the MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation Vehicle) version using the K-53949 chassis. It can transport up to 10 wounded soldiers.
