The Russian Defense Ministry will receive several dozen BREM-L armored recovery vehicles (ARV) derived from the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) in 2015-2017, a spokesman for Russian manufacturer Tractor Plants told journalists on Friday, 30 October 2015.

"The delivery of several dozen BREM-L vehicles is scheduled for 2015-2017," the source said, adding that over 100 BREM-Ls have been supplied to Mediterranean, South American, Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian countries.
A derivative of the BMP-3, the BREM-L features a high degree of commonality with the IFV and similar agility, protection, survivability and fuel efficiency. This turns the BREM-L into one of the best ARVs in the light class. The BREM-L is designed for recovering broken or damaged IFVs and other light vehicles under enemy fire and assisting their crews in fixing and servicing their vehicles in the field. Its design allows recovering vehicles stuck in the mud, self-recovering and towing controllable and uncontrollable vehicles under various road/off-road conditions and afloat. The BREM-L’s mission equipment allows repair, including steel and aluminum alloy electric welding and cutting in preparation vehicles for evacuation, the uplift of vehicles for evacuation or repair with the replacement of units and assemblies (including turrets and power packs), and the replacement of the power pack of its own. The ARV’s jib crane allows replacing its own power pack and driving with a load, including the fighting compartment or power pack, on the crane’s sling within the maintenance site. The trim vane and telescopic snorkel enable the BREM-L to move afloat in sea state 3 confidently with a light vehicle in tow. The BREM-L can remain afloat continuously for a long time continuously with its engine either on or off, with all of its systems remaining operational. The total weight of the BREM-L is 18.7 tons. The vehicle has a crew of three plus two seats for extra troops. Its maximum engine power stands at 500 hp and average road speed at 45-50 km/h. The vehicle mounts a full-circle slewing jib crane with a lifting capacity of 5 tons, a winch and a dozer blade and electric welding equipment as well. |
