Sweden Transfers Tridon Mk2 Air Defense System to Ukraine as Part of a New Aid Package.
Sweden is preparing to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities through the imminent transfer of its TRIDON Mk2 air defense system, as part of a 100 million euro aid package. Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson confirmed on social media that this package, valued at 1.2 billion SEK (approximately 107.7 million euros or 112.8 million dollars), includes the TRIDON Mk2 along with other complementary systems.

In a recent update on social media platform X, Jonson stated, "I am in Kyiv today. For three years now, the Ukrainian people have been fighting for freedom and security – theirs and ours. Today, we announce 100 million euros to support Ukraine’s air defense." Designed to counter a wide range of threats including drones, cruise missiles, aircraft, and armored vehicles, the TRIDON Mk2 represents the new generation of Swedish air defense systems.
The TRIDON Mk2 is a ground-based air defense system created to fill the gap left by costly missile systems. It is the result of nearly 90 years of experience, dating back to 1936, and stands out for its remarkable efficiency against a broad array of threats. Engineered to deliver a rapid and precise response, the TRIDON Mk2 is capable of neutralizing drones, cruise missiles, aircraft, and armored vehicles, thereby ensuring the protection of both military forces and civilian infrastructure.
This anti-aircraft artillery system, mounted on a self-propelled platform and remotely controlled, is equipped with a 40 mm gun that provides an effective range of up to 12 km, depending on the target, the ammunition used, the integrated sensor suite, and the surrounding terrain. Its modular design and ease of deployment allow it to adapt to the evolving battlefield, integrating new technologies to meet changing defense needs. With its relatively low cost and straightforward maintenance, the TRIDON Mk2 is positioned as a prime solution for reactive and efficient air defense, capable of keeping the skies clear of threats.
Beyond the TRIDON Mk2, the aid package also includes enhancements to Ukraine’s air defense through the addition of extra RBS70 NG units and various portable defense systems acquired through international partners. Emphasizing the importance of ongoing support, Jonson added, "In three years of war, the Russian Federation has not managed to defeat Ukraine. We must continue to support Ukraine."
This transfer underscores Sweden’s commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defensive posture amid ongoing conflict while highlighting the international community’s efforts to help Ukraine protect its airspace.
Army Recognition will continue to closely monitor developments as Sweden finalizes the details of this crucial air defense support initiative.
