Kalashnikov Trains Drone Operators to Improve Russia's Air Defense Capabilities.


The Kalashnikov Company has recently completed the training of a new cohort of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operators, specifically tailored to meet the operational demands in the zone of special military operations (SMO). This initiative reflects the organization's commitment to equipping personnel with advanced skills necessary for the modern battlefield.

The emergence of drones during the conflict in Ukraine has marked a turning point in the history of modern warfare, highlighting their central role in contemporary conflicts. These devices have become essential strategic tools widely used for surveillance, targeting, and even direct strikes.

In Ukraine, their extensive use has allowed armed forces to monitor enemy movements in real-time, coordinate artillery strikes with increased precision, and conduct asymmetric attacks on critical infrastructure. Additionally, the proliferation of commercial drones adapted for military purposes has demonstrated a new approach to hybrid warfare, where low-cost civilian technologies are transformed into formidable weapons. This conflict has also accelerated the development of anti-drone countermeasures, underscoring the growing importance of technological dominance in future battles.

In early November, servicemen from the BARS-Sarmat battalion, along with members of two artillery units, participated in an intensive UAV control training program. These courses, regularly organized by Kalashnikov, ensure a steady stream of operators capable of deploying and effectively managing UAVs in combat scenarios.

The three-week training program included both theoretical and practical components. Soldiers were introduced to the intricate design of UAVs, with a particular focus on electronic systems, automation systems, and the operational principles of their internal mechanisms. Training sessions also covered operational protocols to ensure optimal performance in the field.

Practical exercises were held at an airfield, where participants learned to rapidly deploy UAV systems, launch the aircraft, maintain in-flight control, and simulate target approach maneuvers. These sessions aimed to provide realistic scenarios that operators are likely to face during missions.

Currently, several UAV systems developed by Kalashnikov are actively deployed in the SMO zone, emphasizing the critical role of these technologies in modern conflicts. Among the most notable are the KUB-guided munition systems, renowned for their precision and operational efficiency. Reconnaissance operations are supported by the Granat-4 and SKAT 350M aircraft-type UAVs, which provide real-time intelligence to ground forces. Additionally, the Goliath and Karakurt mini-UAV copter systems, which have successfully passed combat testing, offer lightweight and agile solutions for a variety of missions.

This comprehensive training initiative led by Kalashnikov not only enhances the operational capabilities of military personnel but also improves the overall effectiveness of units operating in high-risk environments. Kalashnikov reaffirms its central role in advancing military technologies and supporting frontline operations by continuously adapting its training methodologies and expanding its UAV portfolio.
