Russia's brand new Kamaz Typhoon-K 6x6 MRAP armored vehicles will undergo final operational service tests in 2015, the director of the department of digital design systems of OJSC KAMAZ told RIA Novosti. Russia's Ministry of Defense will decide on the mass production of Typhoons following the trials, Aleksey Purtov added.

The Typhoon is a multifunctional, armored, mine-resistant vehicle family, designed and produced by many Russian defence companies since 2010, including KAMAZ. This vehicle was made under the 2020 concept for the development of military vehicles and first unveiled in late 2013.

The Typhoon-K (also called Taifun-K) is a family of wheeled armoured vehicle designed and manufactured in Russia by the Defense Company KAMAZ. KAMAZ is one of the leading heavy truck and diesel engines manufacturers globally and the biggest in Russia.

The Typhoon-K can be configured in reconnaissance, surveillance, command and staff, engineer reconnaissance, medical evacuation, nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) reconnaissance and surveillance, fire support, special attack and armed escort missions.

The Typhoon-K 6x6 armoured vehicle is build based on using latest generation of armour protection. It is built using integrated ceramic armour for all-round protection against 14.5mm bullets, B-32 armour-piercing shells and high-explosive armour-piercing incendiary bullets.

The Typhoon-K can be fitted with a remotely weapon station armed with one 7.62mm machine gun or one AGS-30 automatic grenade launcher.

The Typhoon-K is based on a Kamaz 6x6 military truck chassis and motorized with KAMAZ 740/354-450, V8 diesel engine that generates a maximum output power of 330.9kW and a maximum torque of 190kgm. It is also equipped with independent, hydropneumatic suspension and automatic transmission system.

The Typhoon-K has participated in the Victory Day military parade in the Red Square on May 9, 2015.
