Due to its unique performance characteristics, the ADS is the first rifle in the world capable of equally effective use in both water and on land.
High Precision Systems, OJSC has produced the first unique amphibious ADS (specialized dual-environment rifle) for marine commandos. The international premiere of the ADS will take place at the IDEX-2015 Defense Industry Exhibition, which will be held from February 22-26, 2015 in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi, said the company's press service. As representatives at High Precision Systems have announced, the purpose of the ADS rifle was to replace the current APS (underwater specialized rifle) as the combat weapon for the special units of the Russian Navy. On land, the rifle shoots 5.45x39mm caliber ammunition and VOG-25 and VOG-25P ammunition from its under-barrel grenade launcher. Underwater fire was made possible by cartridges designed specifically for the ADS, the PSP-UD. The ADS has a weight with a grenade launcher of 4.6 kg, is 685 mm length. It features a rate of fire of 800 rounds/ min and has an effective range on land of 500 m. One of the advantages of the amphibious rifle is its Bullpup layout, which reduces the weapon's length compared to traditional schemes (for the same length of the barrel), increased agility, better balance, and the elimination of the unfolding-folding butt. The new rifle was shown to Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Tula on January 20, 2014. The weapon successfully passed trial operation in the Ministry of Defense naval commando units, in the North, Far East, the Black Sea, and in accordance with the decision of the government, it was adopted by the Russian Armed Forces. By order of the Ministry of Defense, with some technical and tactical characteristics (TTC), the rifle was declassified from "Secret" status. Currently, the weapon is intended for the domestic market. However, Rosoboronexport is leading the marketing campaign for the rifle and plans to export. |
