The PGZ-07, now renamed as PGZ-09 is a Chinese-made 35mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun. Some pictures take in Nanning Guagnxi show that the PGZ-07 is in service with Chinese armed forces (PLA People's Liberation Army). There is only one PLA division stationed in Nanning, the 123rd Mechanized Infantry Division. The PGZ-07 can fire five types of lethal and versatile ammunitions, HEI (High Explosive Incendiary), HEI-T (High Explosive Incendiary Tracer), SAPHEI-T (Semi-armor-piercing high-explosive incendiary), PMBDPF and TP-T (Target Practice Tracer) cartridges. The PGZ-07 anti-aircraft gun system can defeat almost any air threat, as well as various ground and surface targets, including light armoured vehicles. |
Armament |
The PGZ-07/PGZ-09 is armed with two cannons of 35mm, mounted to each side of the turret. One picture from Internet shows that the PGZ-07 can be equipped with four launchers of air defence missile which are mounted outwards and below the 35 mm cannon. Two each side of the turret. The cannons used by the PGZ-07 are probably the same as for Chinese NORINCO twin 35 mm anti-aircraft gun systems (Type 90). This weapon is designed to engage high-speed, low-flying aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and cruise missiles. The PGZ-07 probably fires the same family of ammunition as the Type 90 and maybe new ammunitions. A range of four smoke-grenade discharger is mounted on each side of the turret, below of the 35mm cannon.

Design and protection |
In our first analysis, the chassis of the PGZ-07/PGZ-09 used seems to be the same as for the anti-aircraft gun PGZ-04 (Type 95 or PGZ95). The engine is at the front, to the right of the driver compartment. The two-man turret is at the rear in the middle of the hull. The hull features all-welded steel armour which provides a protection against small arms firing and shell splinters. A single door is available at the rear of the hull.
|
Mobility |
As the PGZ-04, the PGZ-07/PGZ-09 uses a torsion bar suspension with six dual rubber tyred road wheels on each side, with the drive sprocket at the front, idler at the rear and three return rollers. the PGZ-07 can run at a maximum road speed of 55 km/h with a maximum range of 450 km.
|
Accessories |
The PGZ-07/PGZ-09 is equipped with one tracking radar mounted at the front of the turret and surveillance radar at the rear of the turret roof. It appears that an electro-optical sight system is mounted above the tracking radar which could include day/night vision camera and laser rangefinder.
