DT-30PM

Amphibious all-terrain tracked carrier vehicle - Russia

DT 30PM ALTV two unit All Terrain tracked amphibious vehicle Russia 925 001

Description

The DT-30PM is a Russian-made amphibious all-terrain tracked carrier vehicle developed and designed by the Russian company Vityaz Machine-building. It is the modernized version of the DT-30P. The DT-30PM is designed to carry personnel, equipment and military hardware in the most challenging road and climate conditions, without prior reconnaissance and route reinforcement, as well as for mounting weapons and military hardware. The DT-30PM is a two-section articulated carrier. It combines two transport platforms, fitted with actively tracked running gears, into a single entity. The first unit accommodates a power plant with a transmission and a cabin, while the second one carries a passenger/cargo compartment. The DT-30PM is highly mobile and can ride on any terrain condition, or even cross water obstacles at full load without any preliminary preparation. The DT-30PM entered service in the Russian Armed Forces in 2003.

DT-30PM variants:

- DT-30: the first version of the vehicle
- DT-30P: is a two-section articulated carrier all-terrain vehicle, with amphibious capacity.
- DT-30E: two-section articulated carrier excavator
- DT-30PE1: upgrade version of DT-30E
- DT-30MNE: outfitted with a hydraulic excavator. To facilitate the work of the excavator the carrier features three hydraulically-operated outriggers, in an amphibious version the second section is equipped with quick-detachable drop sides. Moreover, the front section has an enclosed sealed body intended for the transportation of up to 12 tons of equipment.
- DT-30PMNE1: upgrade version of DT-30MNE
- DT-30PK8-1: universal drilling system was built designated for drilling and construction-and-assembly works on scattered sites on soils with low bearing capacity. The system is fitted with universal drilling equipment suitable for boring wells in soils of I-IV categories (including permafrost soils, as well as soils highly saturated and those containing quicksands and lenses).
-DT-30PMN: is fitted with an articulated carrier with crane equipment. The crane system is designated KS-5771. The three-unit telescopic boom made of high-resistance steel provides a vast crane operations envelope (engaged zone is 960 sq .m) and great hoisting height (up to 25 m).

Technical Data

Armament
The standard version of DT-30PM has no armament but it can be equipped with a wide range of weapon systems such as surface-to-air missile systems, multiple launch rocket systems, and tube artillery. During the rehearsal for the Russian Victory Day Parade, in April 2017, the DT-30PM was shown with Pantsir weapon station and Tor-M2 air defense missile systems.
Design and protection
The DT-30PM consists of two tracked vehicle units linked by a steering mechanism. The first vehicle of the DT-30PM is a tracked platform with water-displacing sealed all-welded body housing a crew cabin for 4 - 7 people equipped with autonomous heating and air ventilation systems, a power plant, transmission and a cargo compartment located at the rear of the crew cab. Fuel tanks are also installed on the first vehicle. The second vehicle is either a body for transporting personnel and cargo or a platform for mounting a variety of equipment. The lower part of the carrier body is reinforced with a box frame fitted with longitudinal, transverse, and slant bars. This rigid structure makes it possible to mount powerful load-lifting, excavating, drilling, and other technological equipment without any significant modifications to the body. Parts of the two-section carrier are pivotally connected using the steering coupling device of a unique design with three degrees of freedom. Turns in horizontal and vertical planes are performed by means of hydraulic power cylinders. The DT-30PM has a total weight of 31,500 kg with a maximum payload of 30,000 kg.
Mobility
The DT-30PM two-section articulated carriers feature a YaMZ-847-10 diesel engine, developing 588 kW (800 hp) and hydromechanics transmission with a sing lestage hydrodynamic torque converter providing smooth control of transferred torque depending on the running resistance. A four-speed gearbox with a locking differential makes is possible to select the optimum driving mode for any road conditions. Suspension of DT-30PM consists on each side of six rubber-tired road wheels with the idler at the rear and drive sprocket at the front. Thanks to wide rubber-fabric tracks the vehicle, even fully laden, develops low ground pressure (less than the specific ground pressure of a person), therefore it can easily travel on soils with low bearing capacity. All four tracks of the articulated carrier are actively driven. Therefore it experiences no difficulties in negotiating obstacles or climbing on shore: when tracks of the front section lose grip of the ground for some time, the active rear section will give it a push, and when the rear unit gets stuck, it will be pulled out by the front unit. The road wheels are of automobile type with spongy chambers (airless solid tires). The suspension of the articulated carrier is independent, torsion-bar type with spring supports on all road wheels. Idler wheels are all-welded with two polyurethane rims fitted on crank axels, track tensioning system is mechanic. The DT-30PM is able to climb forward slopes up to 30%, a side slope of 15%, and a fording depth of 1.20m without preparation. It can cross trenches up to 4.5m. It has a minimum turning radius of 17.3m. The DT-30PM can run up to 45 km/h on any terrain condition, or sail at a maximum speed of 5km/h.
Accessories
Standard equipment of the DT-30PM includes autonomous heating and air ventilation systems. The rigid structure of the DT-30PM makes it possible to mount powerful load-lifting, excavating, drilling, and other technological equipment without any significant modifications to the body. The DT-30PM tracks are fitted with large metallic crossbars to provide good adhesion to soft oversaturated soils, sufficient speed on the water of 5-6 km/h, and enable climbing out of the water on unprepared shores. Moving in water by rewinding tracks offers significant benefits when the all-terrain vehicle is in the intermediate state of sailing afloat and driving over shallows, as well as moving across water-mud suspensions. Many amphibious vehicles fitted with more efficient propellers or water jets prove helpless in such an environment, i.e. when the water is too shallow for the vehicle to float but at the same time too deep to drive. Such viscous muddy suspensions (swamps, saline lands) become an insurmountable barrier for any amphibious vehicle - no way to float and no way to drive. And only Vityaz carriers are capable of negotiating these basins and can also recover other vehicles. The DT-30PM is fully amphibious and propelled in the water by tracks at the maximum speed of 5 km/h.
