Description
The Dingo 2 is an All-Protected Vehicle, based on the chassis of the Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG 5000 (4×4) cross-country truck. The All-Protected Vehicle was developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, the first version was the Dingo 1, to meet user requirements for a vehicle with increased payload and volume, and a second vehicle was completed in 1997 under the designation APV 2, Dingo 2. This is based on a larger and more powerful UNIMOG (4 × 4) chassis. The DINGO 2 is the most secure and best-protected wheeled vehicle of its class. Its outstanding protection level and state-of-the-art equipment allow it to be deployed for the most varied missions under any climatic conditions around the world. Its multi-functional platform makes the DINGO an ideal vehicle for transport, patrol, and security sorties as well as for observation and escort missions. In October 2022, Germany approved the delivery of 50 Dingo 2 to Ukraine. On December 7, 2022, the German Ministry of Defense announced that Ukraine received 50 Dingo 2 armored vehicles.
Dingo 2 variants:
- Dingo 2 NBC: equipped with sensors for the reconnaissance and identification of NBC agents.
- Dingo 2 GSR: Ground surveillance radar with mast-mounted radar
- Dingo 2 Patrol: basic version with remotely operated turret armed with 7,62 or 12,7 mm machine gun
- Dingo 2 Ambulance: highly protected medical transport vehicle
- Dingo 2 PickUp: with cargo carrier at the rear of the chassis
- Dingo 2 GSI: armored recovery repair vehicle
- Dingo 2 ARV: armored recovery vehicle with a crane mounted at the rear of the chassis

The Dingo is fitted on the roof with a Krauss-Maffei Wegmann weapon station armed with an externally mounted 12.7 mm .50 machine gun that can be aimed and fired under complete armor protection. The German DINGO 2 will also come equipped with a light remote weapon station (RWS) of the type FLW 100/FLW 200. The vehicle crew is thereby capable of operating the weapon station precisely and effectively from within the protected interior of the vehicle, even at high speeds or in rough terrain.

The Dingo 2 is based on a modular design consisting of five parts including a chassis, protection cell, storage space, engine compartment, and bottom mine blast deflector. The crew is seated at the front of the hull with the driver at the left and the commander on the right. The rear part of the hull can accommodate up to six military personnel. High hard steel and ballistic glass protect the crew from anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, as well as from 7.62 AP and artillery fire. Additional composite armor can be added to increase ballistic protection if required. All seats have been designed with special shock absorption capability to prevent crew injury in the event of a mine blast. And importantly, with the increasing use of nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) weapons, an integrated NBC overpressure system is standard. The high level of protection has proven its worth during numerous terrorist assaults and has steadily protected the lives of the crew.

| The engine compartment of the Dingo 2 is at the front, the heavily armored safety crew compartment is in the center and the cargo/load area is at the rear. The engine compartment can be easily accessed for routine checks by simply folding the hinged bonnet forwards. With the success of Dingo 1, Kraus Maffei began the development of the Dingo 2, which is mounted on the technologically advanced DaimlerChrysler UNIMOG U5000 Chassis. Offered in two wheelbase configurations, 10’7” and 12’6”. the Dingo 2 travels at speeds up to 90 km/h on the highway and has a range of up to 1,000 km. It can negotiate a gradient of 60% and a slide slope of 30%. It can cross a trench with a length of 0.5 m, climb a vertical obstacle of 0.5m height, and has a fording capability of 1 m. |

| Dingo 2 small footprint and lightweight facilitate quick air transportation by a variety of medium and heavy lift aircraft, including C-130, C-160, and CH-47. The Dingo 2 crew area is comfortably and conveniently equipped to aid in crew mission readiness. Instruments and control panels are well laid out and illuminated, and are accompanied by optical and acoustic warning signals for improved monitoring. The latest version of the German Dingo 2 is fitted with a new hardtop at the rear of the vehicle, which replaces the common canvas cover of the storage space. |
