Army-2017: Burkina Faso buys two Mi-171Sh helicopters
 
In the course of the Army-2017 International Military Technical Forum, Rosoboronexport (incorporated by the Rostekh state corporation) signed a contract to supply Mi-171Sh helicopters to Burkina Faso, Sergey Kornev, Rosoboronexport deputy director general and director of the department of export of defense products Air Force services, reports.

"Rosoboronexport has signed two contracts to supply Mi-171Sh military transport helicopters and airborne weapons to Burkina Faso. Our partners will get two machines. The contracts will be implemented in 2018," Kornev said.

The exporter of defense products registers the increased demand for Mi-17 type of helicopters in the countries of Africa, Asia-Pacific region and the CIS. According to the Rosoboronexport the Russian Mi-17V-5, Mi-171Sh medium military transport helicopters, currently in production, and their follow-on models will remain competitive and the market demand for them will not decline.

The two choppers will join the Bell UH-1Hs, AS350, Mi-17s and Mi-24 combat helicopters already in service with the Burkina Faso Air Force.

The Mi-171Sh is an export version of the Ulan-Udes Mi-8AMTSh helicopter. An armed assault version of the Mi-8AMT, it can carry the same range of weapons as the Mi-24 including the "Shturm" ATGM.
