Under the memorandum, Indonesia will trade Sukhoi Su-35 jets for commodities like palm oil and coffee, the media organization said.

"This barter under the supervision of both governments hopefully will soon be realized through the exchange of eleven Sukhoi SU-35s and a number of Indonesian exports, starting from coffee and tea to palm oil," Reuter quoted Indonesian Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita as saying.

According to the media organization, Indonesia had a $411 million trade surplus with Russia in 2016. Jakarta is planning to expand its partnership with Russia in tourism, education, energy, technology and aviation.

Russia and Indonesia have also discussed the possibility of partial technology transfer and the organization of licensed production of some equipment in Indonesia, Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Wahid Supriyadi said.
Supriyadi made this statement in an interview with Rambler News Service.

"I would like to note that during the talks on the purchase of Su-35 fighter jets, we discussed the possibility of co-production of certain items of equipment in Indonesia with the use of Russian technologies," the ambassador said in reply to a question about the possibility of setting up licensed production of some Russian armament in Indonesia.

According to Supriyadi, this approach can "be applied to other spheres", not only to the delivery of Su-35 fighter jets.

As the ambassador said, Indonesia is planning to purchase nine Su-35 planes.

Earlier, Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said that Indonesia’s government was planning to purchase 11 Su-35 fighter jets from Russia to enhance the country’s air defense. Indonesia wants to purchase Su-35 planes to replace US F-5 fighter jets.
