|

China's Hongdu Aircraft Industry Group (HAIG), part of AVIC corporation, on May 1st rolled out a light attack version of the L-15 "Falcon" training jet during an official ceremony at HAIG factory. Likely dubbed L-15B, the new jet recently appeared on Chinese state-run television CCTV 1 footages.

A light attack aircraft, the L-15B features 9 hardpoints (3 under each wing, 1 on each wing tip and 1 under the fuselage, allowing the L-15B to carry a wider range of precision guided munitions compared to previous versions.
The L-15B is 12,44 m long, 4,71 m high and has a wingspan of 9,48 m. First production units are expected to be powered by two Ukrainian AI-222K-25F turbofan engines with afterburner, giving the aircraft a maximum speed of 1 200 km/h and an operational range of 2 600 km. According our colleagues from Eastpendulum, the L-15B would be fitted with a new PESA radar developped by AVIC's 607 Institute. This X-band passive electronic scanning radar is capable of guiding air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles in an approximative range of 111 km. |
