Russia donates two An-26 aircraft to Kyrgyzstan Armed Forces
 
Handover ceremony of two An-26 aircraft and opening ceremony of the aircraft maintenance unit, where aircraft of Kyrgyzstan will be maintained and repaired, took place on August 10 in Kant airbase, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan said in a statement.

The coutrny's Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan Raimberdi Duishembiyev, representatives of Russian Ministry of Defense, Central Military Command and Kant airbase led by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Alexander Fomin attended the ceremony.

The aircraft were handed over to Kyrgyz party in the framework of grant aid on the basis of agreement between the Presidents of the countries. In addition to aircraft and equipments, the Ministry of Defense of Russia provided replacement parts, stand-by units, consumable products, training materials and practical tutorials for military officers of the Air Defense Forces of Kyrgyzstan.

Raimberdi Duishembiyev noted that the handover of aviation equipment became possible thanks to high level cooperation between countries in the military field. He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defense of Russia for rendering aid in equipping the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan with modern armaments and military machinery. Duishembiyev expressed confidence that parties will continue to boost multi-vector cooperation for ensuring stability and security of states.

The new aircraft will bolster transport capabilities of the Kyrgyzstan's air arm, actually composed of some Mi-8 transport helicopters and Mi-24 attack helicopters. The An-26 is a Soviet-era twin-engine turboprop military transport aircraft.
