The memorandum of understanding was signed by Russian Helicopters Group CEO Andrei Boginsky and Chairman of the IDRO Board of Directors Mansour Moazzami to develop Russian-Iranian cooperation under the program of upgrading Iran’s helicopter fleet.
"We have noted the acute need of Iranian civilian agencies for light helicopters. The Russian-Iranian joint venture may assemble either the Kamov Ka-226 [NATO reporting name: Hoodlum] or the Ansat light helicopter," the press office quoted Boginsky as saying. "Talks on the issue are under way. The memorandum signed today stipulates that a full-fledged cooperation agreement will be signed in the imminent future," Boginsky added. As of today, Iran operates more than 50 Russian-made helicopters. The Mil Mi-17 (Hip) rotorcraft is the most popular. Iran uses virtually the whole range of helicopters of the type, in particular, the Mi-17, Mi-171, Mi-171E, Mi-8MTV and Mi-17V-5. |
