Russian Helicopters' Ka-62 chopper successfully completes maiden flight

The flying demonstrator of the newest Ka-62 helicopter has made its maiden flight at the range of the Progress Arseniev Aviation Company named after N. I. Sazykin (a subsidiary of Rostec`s Russian Helicopter holding). The flight lasted for 15 minutes and confirmed that the required refinements of the helicopter had been successfully done, Russian Helicopters` press department said.

The test pilots of the Ka-62`s general designing company (JSC Kamov, a subsidiary of Russian Helicopters) evaluated the helicopter`s functioning and checked its main power supply systems, avionics and powerplant. "Today`s flight trials have demonstrated that we have successfully finished the refining of the prototype model using the experience gained during the previous stages of the [Ka-62] program. In particular, the helicopter`s stability and controllability have been tested, as well as the functioning of its main systems and complexes," the Director General of the Russian Helicopters holding Andrey Boginskiy said. Ka-62 conducted a circular flight that lasted for 15 minutes at a speed of 110 km/h.
In April 2016, the flying prototype of Ka-62 took off the ground for the first time in order to evaluate its functioning and to check the helicopter`s main avionic and power supply systems. Then-acting Director General of Russian Helicopters Alexander Mikheev said that the new rotor-wing aircraft would complement the civil variants of the world-known Mi-8/17 helicopter "filling the highly-sought gap in the type of helicopters that have a take-off weight of 6-7 t". Ka-62 is designed to transport passengers and to conduct search-and-rescue and hydrocarbon operations. The helicopter can used in hot climate and maritime areas. |
