Russia is currently in talks with the United Arab Emirates to discuss the delivery of several dozen Sukhoi Su-35 (NATO reporting name: Flanker-E+) fighter jets, Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said. "Talks on the issue are currently under way. It is clear that the talks on the delivery of several dozen planes take time," Manturov said.

"We are transferring the technical documentation so that our colleagues can estimate their requirements," he added.
According to him, the United Arab Emirates is expected to respond to the offer in the imminent future. United Arab Emirates started showing interest in possible deliveries of Russia's Su-35 multirole air superiority fighters at the last edition of IDEX defense & security exhibition, in Feb. 2017. The Su-35 is a radically modernized version of the Su-27 aircraft to significantly enhance its combat effectiveness against aerial, ground and sea tagets. The important difference of the Su-35 over the Su-27 is the use of new high-power engines in the propulsion system. They were designed at NPO Saturn, a part of UEC, and are known as "117S".
Sergey Chemezov said an initial agreement has been signed and work was expected to start on the "long-term project" as early as next year. Speaking at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX), he said it was too early to put a value on the project. |
